Latest Obsession

I am a TV series slut. I watch a lot. And I am not ashamed. But saying that I am a bit discerning on what I will watch. I don't just anything, it needs to be worth my time.
My latest love affair is with Orange is the New Black. If you have not heard about it - where have you been - it's about a girl who goes to prison for a crime she committed when she was younger. Her backstory and the stories of her inmates are told through flash-backs. The lead, Piper is pretty great but it's the other characters that really give the show life.

If the constant interweb buzz and my awesome recommendation is still not convincing, here are some great bits from the show. These won't give away much so you can read without worrying about massive spoilers.

Truth

I was browsing Buzzfeed when I came across this post about some girl code wisdom.

Sometimes I feel there's a whole lot of girl-on-girl hatred and drama and most of the time it's related to or about boys. Not to say that all us girls just come to blows because boys are the only thing on our minds. But I can recount several situations where other women (particularly in the workplace) have tried to one-up, slut-shame, belittle and fight with or against other girls because there is a man nearby or because they think it shows a kind of strength to their male peers.I have always had a little contempt for women who rebel against chauvinists yet are still grown up mean girls.

And do not get me started on slut-shamers. Those bitches can sit down. So when I came across this post a few things filled me with the warm fuzzies.

Now let's talk about how much some boys can piss me off. I am not a naturally pretty girl. I got massive thighs and I'll always be carrying a little extra weight. Saying that I have come to love my body shape, curves are all kinds of amazing. Since I do not bring much to the party in terms of natural beauty and an amazing bod, I try and compensate in other ways. I dress well and I do my hair and make-up. I try to achieve a different look daily. This compared to girls who just wear tshirts and jeans and loose hair seems to guys like I am high-maintenance. I am not. I have got this shit down to an art and can get ready in 15 minutes. I just like to take a little extra time and effort with my appearance. It's basically like playing grown-up dress up and I am sick of being told I have too much time on my hands or look like a lot of work.

When I bring up stuff like the above, I get called crazy. Actually because all girls have a level of crazy - as do a lot of guys deep down - we all get labelled as insane. Sometimes we just have a little bit which most of us sane ones hide until you love us loads and won't leave us ;)

But enough ranting, here is probably the best bit of wisdom I got out of this post. Ain't that the truth.

How I have been spending my weekends

As a result, my new thoughts on life

My plans to diet

Me around a boy I like

Me around boys that I don’t like (yes, I know I’m a bitch)

When faced with the prospect of a date

Then the panic sets in

When I realise there’s no time to get lover-ready

TRUTH HQ

So back in 2012, we first visited Truth inBuitenkant. At that time all they were was a construction site and a side hatch. Fast-forward to now and the hatch is still there but inside is a steam-punk haven without one bit of construction.

The new HQ has been open for some time but we only got to experience it properly a few weeks ago. If you’re ever looking for a great place to meet friends, have a coffee date (as the loved-up couple in front of me were clearly on), a mini work meeting or just need a place to park with your laptop and a latte, this is the place.

The place has lots of seating, so you can grab a table, a booth, a couch or even sit at the communal table with other peeps. Personally I love these table of long tables when there are small groups of people. There’s a sense of togetherness but still everyone has their own space.

Normally here is where I’d touch on the coffee. But this is TRUTH. We know the coffee is good. What I can tell you is that their service for 7 in the morning was great. Coffee came out quickly and was all warm and delicious. Also all the cups and saucers were different. Which is a fab touch. In fact the whole décor of the place was fabulous. The overall theme is definitely steam-punk (with the staff adorned appropriately) and it’s very industrial chic.

The important details you need to know are it’s open from 07h00. You can use the hatch for a quick take-away but inside is where it’s really at. There’s food and really tasty croissants (I can vouch for that), and from time-to-time it also plays house to several events and markets. This is really where it’s at.
